๐Ÿ Community Based Behavioral Health Explained

Most behavioral health services require a family to come to them. They set an appointment, drive across town, sit in a waiting room, and hope the kid holds it together long enough to have a productive session.

A lot of families in Fort Worth can't do that. Transportation is an issue. Work schedules are an issue. Getting four kids out the door is an issue. So they don't go. And nothing changes.

Community based care flips that.

What "we come to you" actually means

QMHPs at Texas Care Stop 6 go to the family. That might be the home. It might be the school. It might be a community space nearby.

The session happens where the family already is. Which means fewer barriers to showing up. And more importantly, the work happens in the actual environment where the behavior is occurring.

You're not getting a secondhand report about what happens at home. You're there.

Why this matters for the work

A kid who falls apart every afternoon after school looks different in that therapist's office than they do in the living room at 4pm. The parents who describe a meltdown are different from the parents you're sitting with when one is starting to build.

Being in the home gives you information you can't get anywhere else. You see the sibling dynamic. You see how the parent responds. You see what the environment looks like and what it feels like.

That context makes the work more effective. Not just more convenient.

Who we serve

Families in East Fort Worth, the Stop Six neighborhood, and the surrounding areas. Kids and teens dealing with emotional dysregulation, behavioral challenges, anxiety, trauma, and the kinds of ongoing difficulties that aren't getting better on their own.

All of our services are covered by Medicaid. No referral needed to get started.

What this means if you're a QMHP

You're not working in a clinic. You're working in the community. Your office is wherever the family needs you to be.

That's not for everyone. For the right person, it's exactly what the job should feel like.
